This extraordinary low-pile Bijar by the weaver
Halvaee is considered a museum piece. An antique, this rug remains in
impeccable, near mint, condition, never once having required repair.
The brilliance of its blood-orange and navy dyes has lasted through the
years. The design of this rug is remarkable, for it incorporates
several elements from different regions of Iran. The weaver could have
only learnt these techniques and styles by travel—a noteworthy detail,
as travel would have been arduous and costly at the time of this rug’s
weaving. Some of the design elements include a geometric slimi
(interlocking vines), a fish motif, and a boteh (similar to
paisley) motif in the medallion.
